It all began with a question.
In the Spring of 2024 our director of learning, Brett, participated in a panel discussion at Utah Valley University’s Autism Conference. Near the end of the panel a gentleman stood and spoke about his grandson, a highly intelligent and skilled developer, who was really struggling to find a job. As an Autist his grandson has a difficult time networking, and we all know that you get jobs through the people you know. The question was, “How do I help him network?” The seeds for Game Changer were planted.
So, what exactly is Game Changer?
Traditional networking events tend to expect the attendees to walk up and introduce themselves to others, maybe after a presentation that you both attend, or during a lunch break. For neurodivergent individuals this can be stressful, from being socially drained to being uncomfortable approaching strangers, being unable to focus or follow a conversation when there is other noise to sensory overwhelm. These challenges reduce or eliminate the ability for neurodivergent individuals to get value from the event.
How is this event different?
We’re removing the formality and creating an environment that is safe and welcoming for folx of all neurotypes. Inclusive Agile’s experience with establishing and rebuilding psychological safety helps bring this event to the next level. We will also have staff on hand to help manage extreme neurodivergent situations.
How does Game Changer aim to accomplish this?
Forget crowded event spaces, music playing, and noise levels you can’t think over. Instead, come play your favorite game or learn a new one! From tabletop role-playing to puzzle building - we strive to have activities for all experience and participation levels which allow our attendees to find common interests and get to know each other.
