Psychologically Safe Feedback is What’s Missing For Agile Sucess
My pet peeve with Agile became my new mission -
I keep hearing some variation of 'Agile is dead. Long live Agile!" but it's not Agile that's the problem—it's the dogmatic adherence to rigid frameworks.
Don't get me wrong. I love me some Scrum. Kanban? Kaaaaan do. But the whole point is flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement, driven by core principles.
And the biggest thing getting in the way is a lack of effective, psychologically safe feedback.
Feedback is a cornerstone of Agile methodologies, essential for continuous improvement. Agile frameworks emphasize regular feedback cycles, enabling teams to inspect and adapt their work. This iterative approach ensures swift issue resolution and enhanced performance. By fostering an environment of open communication, Agile teams remain responsive, adaptive, and resilient. But, when team members don’t feel like they can provide feedback without negative repercussions, these feedback cycles fall apart.
When team members trust that their feedback is respected, it encourages continuous improvement and innovation. This inclusive approach leverages diverse perspectives, building cohesive, high-performing Agile teams.
Is there any component you have seen that is more important or that is more missing from our Agile teams?
